Lector Ministry

Proclaim the Good News! When the Scriptures are read in the church, it is Christ himself who speaks.

This is an important ministry, which requires a strong voice and a commitment to the Word. Lectors assist at all Masses and at other special liturgical services. Lectors are scheduled on a regular basis, but there are opportunities to volunteer for extra services. There is a training session required and a yearly renewal. Although the Ministers of the Word are commissioned by the Bishop to proclaim the Word to the faithful, the permission is granted only for the parish in which the minister is registered and active. The permission of the pastor or priest to whom the celebration of liturgy is entrusted and must be obtained before the minister is commissioned. This commission is granted for general or specific occasions and endures for three years.
