Do Not Let Your Hearts Be Troubled
by Fr. Long Phi Nguyen, SVD | 05/01/2026 | Sunday Written ReflectionIn this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus speaks words of comfort to every anxious heart: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Have faith in God; have faith also in me” (John 14:1). He speaks these words to his disciples in a time of fear and uncertainty. They do not fully understand what lies ahead, but Jesus sees their sadness and confusion and speaks to them with tenderness, love, and peace.
His words speak just as gently to us today. We, too, carry many worries—about our families, our health, our children, our work, and the burdens of daily life. At times, we may feel tired, uncertain, or discouraged. Yet Jesus comes close to us and says, “Do not let your hearts be troubled.” He does not ignore our pain or anxieties; instead, he invites us to place our trust in him.
Jesus then says, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” He does not simply point out the way; he becomes the way for us. When we feel lost, he walks beside us. When we are confused, he guides us. When we are weary, he strengthens us. He does not promise a life without struggle, but he does promise that we will never walk alone.
Like Thomas, we may sometimes ask, “Lord, how can we know the way?” Jesus answers with patience and love. Faith does not mean having all the answers. It means trusting the Lord one step at a time, believing that he will lead us even when the path is unclear.
This Sunday’s Gospel invites our parish family to grow in trust and to reflect Christ’s peace to one another. We live this message when we turn to prayer in times of worry, show kindness and patience in daily life, and reach out to those who are struggling. In this way, our parish becomes truly a place of hope, healing, and welcome.
As we continue through the Easter season, may we hear Jesus’ words deep within our hearts: “Do not let your hearts be troubled.” May we trust in his presence, rest in his peace, and walk forward together in faith and hope.
