4th Sunday of Easter
by Dcn. Mark Lishko | 04/25/2026 | Sunday Written ReflectionThe Gospel emphasizes Jesus’ intimate bond with his sheep—us. He is not distant, rather a shepherd so close that we hear Him call our name. Jesus guides and protects us, and the more we know the Shepherd, the easier it is to recognize false leaders, who lead us astray.
How can we know Our Shepherd? As simple as reading the New Testament, praying, and especially being attentive to the readings and Gospel at Mass.
Prayer is a two-way street. We talk to God and then listen for His response in our hearts. This requires patience. The more time we spend with Jesus, the better we get to know Him. “Knowing about Him,” is not a substitute for “knowing” Him.
Jesus is available 24 hours a day. How many excuses do we make to avoid spending time with Him? Love desires to spend time with the object of its love. Sitting in adoration is making yourself available to the God of the Universe and an intimate sharing of hearts.
There is something special only each one of us can give Him, OUR LOVE. No one else can do that for us. Speak lovingly to God and surrender your heart and life. This is the only gift you can give Him that He doesn’t have!
Sheep will not follow a stranger. What voices do I allow that separates me from Christ, social media, celebrities, sports, materialism, pride, or busyness?
Listen to the voice of the Shepherd. Do not let the noise, distractions, and deceptions compete for your attention. Know His voice deep in your heart. Jesus is the one true path to eternal life. The promises of the world are worthless. Cleave to the Shepherd who laid down His life for you and desires to spend eternity with you—starting right now.
