“His Heart Was Moved with Compassion” (Matthew 9:36-10:8)

A friend once shared with me a moment that revealed something deeply true about our world today. She was walking downtown when she noticed a teenager sitting alone on a curb, head buried in his hands. People hurried past him—busy, distracted, unsure, perhaps afraid to get involved.  She felt the same hesitation: Should I stop? Should I keep going? What if I say the wrong thing?

“Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.”

If one Sunday any one of the clergy stood up before you and said these words about himself you would rightly get up and walk away. But these words aren’t coming from just anyone, they are coming from the Incarnate Son of God, Jesus Christ. The very one who raised the dead, healed the sick, walked on water and was resurrected three days after the very death He predicted.
