With great joy and gratitude, I would like to welcome Fr. John Toan Vu, SVD, who joins our parish community as our new Parochial Vicar.

Fr. Toan comes to us as a member of the congregation of the Society of the Divine Word, bringing with him a missionary heart, a spirit of service, and a desire to walk with God’s people in faith and love. We are grateful to God for sending him to Holy Spirit Parish to share in our parish life, our ministries, and our mission.

As we celebrate the Fourth of July and mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, we do so with hearts filled with gratitude to God. This important milestone invites us not only to celebrate our nation’s history, but also to remember the blessings, sacrifices, responsibilities, and hopes that have shaped our country.

As we celebrate Mother’s Day, we give thanks to God for the beautiful gift of our mothers, grandmothers, godmothers, and all women who have blessed us with a mother’s love. Through their patience, sacrifice, tenderness, and strength, we catch a glimpse of the faithful love of God, who never forgets His children. As the Lord says through the prophet Isaiah: “Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her womb? Even should she forget, I will never forget you” (Isaiah 49:15). This is the tender and protective love of God, like a mother hen gathering her chicks close to herself, keeping them safe beneath her wings.

I would like to inform our parishioners that Fr. Predheep has been assigned to a new ministry, effective July 1, 2026. Before beginning this new assignment, he will be taking a one-month vacation in India during the month of May to visit his family.

On this Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, we are drawn back to the Jordan River, where Heaven opens and the Father’s voice is heard: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” As Bishop-elect Dai Bui reminded us in his homily, these words were not spoken only for Jesus on the banks of the Jordan. They reveal a foundational truth of our faith: before we are called to do anything, before we are sent on mission, before any responsibility entrusted to us, we are first and always beloved by the Father.

As we step into the Year of Our Lord 2026, my heart is filled with gratitude for each of you and for the many ways God’s grace continues to shape and strengthen our parish family. The past year has brought its share of joys and challenges, but through it all the Lord has remained faithful. Your presence at Mass, your generosity, your service, your dedication, and your quiet, unseen sacrifices testify to a vibrant and persevering faith. Truly, you are the heart of this community!

Last week, I received a Christmas card from my spiritual director featuring a simple yet beautiful image of the newborn Jesus with Mary and Joseph in the manger, crowned by a shining star and the Scripture verse: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5). That single line has stayed with me, quietly stirring my heart with hope throughout these days of Advent.

Thanksgiving is truly a special day in our nation. We often delight in familiar traditions—colorful autumn leaves, gathering with family and friends, the excitement of parades and football, and the joy of sharing a delicious meal together. These warm memories remind us of the goodness and love that fill our lives.
